Where to stay in Langkawi Malaysia?

The total covered area of Langkawi is 25 sq.km. The best area to stay for mid-range hotels and resorts is Pantai Cenang Beach. The beach area has a number of water sports activities, cafes, fast food and shopping centres. This location is ideal for people travelling with families.

Other popular areas to stay includes Kuah District which is close to the jetty area. This area is close to transport other than that there is no other place of interest.

Pantai Tengah is another area with a relatively relaxed feel and mid-range accommodation suited mostly to families or people seeking a more relaxed holiday. It is in contrast to Cenang which can be overwhelming at times.

There is a number of high-end resorts across the Island, particularly on the top end. These are more expensive but offer private beaches and a number of other luxury options.

A Skywalk connects two peaks also provides amazing views of the mountain region and offers a unique experience to the visitors.

Kuah Village Area in Langkawi

Kuah Village is located at the southern tip of the Island of Langakwi and is a gateway to the Island with ferry terminal and major bus terminal wherea all Langakwi tours operate.
Langkawi is connected to Southern Thailand, Penang and Kuala Perlis by Ferry. A beautiful landmark of Langkawi, the Eagle Statue is located in Kuah Village Area. There are a number of hotels and resorts in this area. This area is not as close to Langakwi Cable Car as Cenang Beach Area.

Cenang Beach Area in Langkawi

Cenang beach is the center of acitivty in Langkawi as the adjacent strip is most developed area with a number of quality resorts, hotels and shopping outlets including Duty Free Store.
If like busy places and a bit of activity, Cenang Beach is definitely a place for you to book you hotels. Thre restaurants stays open till late and you can observe activity through late hours of the night.
A number of tour operators have their booking desks and offices along Cenang Beach.

Oriental Village Langkawi

Oriental Village Langkawi

The booking station for Langkawi Cable Car is located in the oriental village which is developed as a tourist park with a number of cafes, shops and souvenir store along with other tourist attractions.
Most buses providing tour services in the Island stop at the Oriental Village area. The Langkawi Marina and outdoor adventure actitivies including walking tracks and horse riding facilities are located close to the oriental village.

Tunjung Beach Resort

A quite beach located in north eastern end of the Island. It is a great spot to enjoy a day of swim and relaxation as it is not as crowded as Cenang Beach. Enjoy Friday night market at nearbly Ayer Hanget Beach.
Tunjung Rhu Beach is home to the luxury resorts Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. The magrove tours are also offered in the mangrove and waterways surrounding the beach area.

2022 Trip to Langkawi Malaysia

The ibextrails team travelled to Langkawi in July 2022. We booked an early morning flight from KL to Langkawi around midday. There was a delay in the flight and we reached Langkawi by 5 pm. You can book AirAsia for Firefly which offers a number of flights from KL every day.

We decided to spend the evening at Pantai Cenang before heading to our hotel in Kuah Village. We booked the Bayview Hotel which is a great 4-star hotel. We recommend booking a hotel in the Cenang Beach area as most services are located along the beach.

There are plenty of seafood and continental food restaurants at main road on Pantai Cenang. We decided to try some local seafood including deep-fried snapper cooked in tamarind sauce.

2nd Day in Langkawi

A number of tour operators offer a variety of day tours around Langkawi. The operators will pick you up from your hotel around 7 am and take you to a designed ferry location from where tours are operated.

We were picked up by the tour operator from our hotel and taken to the ferry terminal. The half-day island hopping tour took us around several islands around Langkawi.

The ride through the GeoPark is a must if you are visiting Langkawi as it provides a great opportunity to witness the natural beauty and wildlife of the Island. The Lake of the Pregnant Maiden is a freshwater lake with a facility for kayaking and swimming or simply sunbathing over the wooden decks.

On the third day, we decided to explore the Langkawi Cable Car and SkyWalk. There were long queues at the booking terminal as it was the school holiday season. We decided to get express tickets to save time.

3rd Day at Langkawi Malaysia

Walk to the SkyWalk is not recommended to the elderly as there is a number of stairs to be climbed to reach the Skywalk.

The Cable car climbs around 780m above sea level. There is an observation deck on the top and a walk to the Sky Walk which is accessible by stairs and a steep walk.

The Best Time to Travel to Langkawi is between November and April where the temperature stays between 30c to 35c with little rain. The steady seawater is ideal for cruises and water sports.
